“Over the Summer I was blessed with the opportunity to visit Iceland for another student’s documentary. I found myself immersed in the landscape, extremely present in something so new to me. I spent the weeks before travel reading up on Icelandic folklore and when I was there all I could think about were troll faces in the mountain sides. Kelly and I were inspired by the specific folktale, The Night Troll, and started to morph it into a twisted, fantastical screenplay. Petur and Matthias have an odd relationship that is one we see too often in father and son, “toughen up and be a man.” Mæja, stone earth troll, shows Matthias a new way of doing things. Matthias realizes at the end of the film that he descends from a long generation of earth trolls. The stone trolls represent the essence of the divine feminine, a personified ‘Mother Earth.’ With this story, my goal is  to inspire the audience to look deeper at the environment they’re in, use the childlike imagination we were gifted with and soften by giving back some love to mother earth. “

In this shattered-narrative, a father brings his unwilling son on a fishing trip to a secluded lake where a generation of ancient mythological creatures reside.
